The feature allows you to start working on one device, then switch to another with your progress saved. The new Finder icon, for example, is more bevelled on the surface while the Trash Can now has more, um, trash in it – and colourful trash at that. Some are actually more 3D and complex than their Mavericks siblings. Not every icon has been flattened in quite the same way. Yosemite’s icons differ from Mavericks in the same way as the wider interface, but it’s intriguing to compare icons on a case by case basis. This is a change with Retina screens in mind, it seems. If your machine runs Mavericks, it will run Yosemite – but Helvetica Neue slimline look doesn’t suit lower resolutions. We like it – although you may not like it quite as much on an older Mac.
